This is the space where I create paintings. I’ve used this same cloth draped over boards since we moved to the hi-desert 12 years ago. So far my studio has been in Gamma Gulch, Yucca Valley and now in Joshua Tree.

I don’t mean to have a favorite book of mine that I’ve written - it’s like having a favorite kid. But it’s true, I have a novel that I love more than the others. That’s Joe, as I refer to it. “Joe’s Late Great American Dream” is its full name.

I started with dragons and a wizard, and mixed in chapters about ice hockey.
Then came along an ancient, mind-controlling cephalopod whose just woken up from a 15,000 year slumber…
oh my - what a combination!
I called it a modern fairytale for adults.

When my first novel, "Somewhere Out There In The West" was published - my brain exploded, in a good way. I couldn’t believe it! I had a published novel! My mind clicked into a new gear and nearly immediately I began my next novel…

My first novel - Somewhere Out There In The West - took me years to write. The first page was written in a notebook some forty years ago…

Let me introduce you to Auto #7399, my robot friend. He lives in Dada City, in the world of Central Services.
He is both a little anxious and a bit forgetful, but he’s a good robot.

Here I am. Starting a new blog. I’ve got nothing but a blank page in front of me. 

It is November 2025, and the world seems like such a f*cked up place that we’re not even going to talk about that… we have other things to think of - art, music, writing, thoughts of better times, friends and more. That's what this blog is going to be about. 

I played synthesizer in a band called Zombie Birdhouse back in 1985 and ‘86. Our drummer, Lance, took the name from an Iggy Pop album.

I wrote this poem around 2:00 in the morning on May 11, 1986, stoned on hashish. I think of this poem as a cross between Shel Silverstein and Tim Burton.
